By now each reader of these blogs should be able to recognize the continuing failure of OSM to connect with its constituency in any meaningful way without me having to spell it out. And, yes, you readers should be contacting board members and demanding that they fulfill their commitments. Yet, what do I see? The same apathy that consumes the OSM board has obviously infected the majority of the Joomla! community. It's like, "just give me the latest software update -- don't make me think about what happens behind the curtain."
It is now December 5th, 2012. The last published minutes of OSM board meetings was September 18, 2012. There should have been two board meetings since then plus numerous email opportunities to approve minutes. Nothing has been published. Yet, the board whipped through a bylaws change on November 15th and 16th via email like good little OSM bobble heads with no discussion and apparently very little awareness of what they were voting on and why.
Update: November 12, 20122
Alice Grevet announced today in the Joomla-Leadership-Group:Following a vote in the OSM board meeting on December 9, 2012, the minutes from the board meeting of October 16, 2012 were approved, with 13 in favor and none opposed.
Of course, that doesn't explain why they couldn't also approve the minutes from the November 14th board meeting held at the OSM summit in San Jose at this same December 9th meeting.. After all she had 26 days (almost an entire month) to complete the minutes. Guess timely sharing just isn't on OSM's radar.
We have had one partial financial report so far in 2012 and that was on September 10th. While they have promised to publish every month, the last message from Thomas Hampton was that they would at least publish every three months. Betcha we don't see anything on December 10th!
And as I have mentioned before, we still don't have a complete listing of the bios of the new board members announced in early October plus Sukh is still listed as a board member when he is no longer on the board.
So, transparency - a word that used to be frequently expressed as thre desired state for the OSM board now seems to be a word that is depricated -
Seem like the right phrase to you? After all, it is a "programming" term!
Uh, oh. Wonder where the tax forms are published? Certainly not on the OSM web site and so far not on the NY Charities Bureau website. Gee, it will be 2013 soon and no 2011 tax forms released!
