Joomla! Leadership: You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig!

To put "lipstick on a pig" is a rhetorical expression, used to convey the message that making superficial or cosmetic changes is a futile attempt to disguise the true nature of a product

You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called 'change.' It's still gonna stink after eight years.

  Barack Obama, September 9, 2008

Looks like that is where Joomla! Leadership is pedaling just as fast as it can. If you haven't had the chance, please read the proposed Joomla Foundation document that has not been offered to the Joomla! Community for comment - only to the Joomla! Leadership.

All of the effort made in that document is to accomplish the change that Paul Orwig has been trying to shepherd through the Joomla! leadership since last year. There was a notable lack of response from the leadership in support of the proposed changes after the return from the San Jose summit last year which necessitated this additional attempt to push it through at J And Beyond in Germany May 18-20. So, for some, only five days to go before they get to Germany.  I believe their summit will actually occur after J And Beyond on May 21-22. Note that there have been only 6 commenters out of the 25 members of the Leadership Team. All of the commenters are part of the "Working Team for the Leadership Structure Changes" so far. No overwhelming observations from those that ultimately must approve or disapprove the proposal.

Don't forget, one of the supposed reasons for this proposed change is to improve communication. Unfortunately, it looks to me like most of the communication problems lie in the lap of OSM. They are the ones not releasing information on annual financial condition, the ones who stopped monthly reports on performance against budget, the ones who have yet to publish a 2012 budget even though we are almost half-way through the 2012 fiscal year, they are the ones who stonewalled on publishing tax returns for the longest time. So, this proposed restructuring of a group who fails to follow their own bylaws and their own promises is nothing more then putting lipstick on a pig!

Only six days till the summit in Germany! I encourage all of you to read the two petitions  linked here and sign them. It is time OSM heard from its constituents!
